Registry of th Supreme Court

THE REGISTRY OF THE SUPREME COURT

 

    The Registry of the Supreme Court is governed by Law No. 2006/016 of 29 December 2006 to lay down the Organisation and Functioning of the Supreme Court, amended and supplemented by Law No. 2017/014 of 12 July 2017.

It is composed of:

  • a Registry of the Supreme Court ;
  • a Registry of the Judicial Bench ;
  • a Registry of the Administrative Bench ;
  • a Registry of the Audit Bench;

The Registry of the Supreme Court is under the direct authority of the Registrar-in-Chief of the Supreme Court, who receives directives from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The other three Registries are under the authority of Registrars-in-Chief of Benches who receive directives from respective Bench Presidents.

The Registry of the Supreme Court includes the following sections:

  • a mail service ;
  • a Section for the Panel of Joint Benches ;
  • a Section for a Legal Aid Commission;
  • a Specialised Section ;
  • a Section for Stay of Execution;
  • a Section for litigation relating to execution of judgments;
  • a Section for Compensating victims of Illegal Detention;
  • The Section for the Inquiry Control Chambers.

The Registry of the Supreme Court is responsible for the following:

  • Preparing and assisting in Court sessions of:

         - the Opening of the judicial year ;

         - the Panel of Joint Benches ;  

         - the Specialised Division;

         - litigation relating to execution of judgments;

         - the Inquiry Control Chambers.

  • Preparing and assisting in Sessions of the Legal Aid Commission ;
  • Preparing Sessions of the Commission for Compensation of victims of Illegal Detention;
  • Receiving, recording and sorting of incoming and outgoing mail ;
  • Recording of Rulings delivered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and issuance of official copies of decisions ;
  • Ensuring that all official copies of judgments delivered by the Specialised Division are signed;
  • Issuance of official and certified copies of decisions ;
  • Opening of cases for the Panel of Joint Benches ;
  • Building up files concerning applications for stay of execution and issuing certificates of deposit of applications for stay of execution;
  • Appending the enforcement decision on judgments of the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA), certified copies and their copies; 
  • Appending executory formula on judgments from the CCJA, certified true copies with executory formula as well as copies of the said judgments: as provided by (Article 1 of Decree No. 2002/299 of 3rd December 2002 to appoint the authority responsible for appending the order for enforcement to judgments delivered by the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration of OHADA and to arbitral awards made pursuant to the arbitration rules of the said Court and the Uniform Act relating to Arbitration);
  • Preserving all original copies of judicial acts and issuing of certified and official copies of such acts.
